Watermarks on eSigned Leases

There is a blue "Apryse" watermark on every page of some of my eSigned leases. Why is it there? Does it affect the legality of the lease?

Updated this week

First and foremost, this watermark does not affect the legality of your leases.

This watermark is caused by a 3rd party library, from Apryse, that we use to affix the drawn signature to the PDF document before sealing the document to make your eSigned lease legal.

The watermark was affixed only on leases signed via the tenant portal (online move in, not the main application move in) occurring approximately between June 2025 through September 16, 2025.

The 3rd party vendor (Apryse) had an issue with their licensing system and saw requests coming from our tenant portal only (not the main application) as using a trial version of their library. Thus, they applied the watermark. Once our team caught this issue, we addressed it with Apryse and the watermark will no longer be affixed to eSigned documents in the tenant portal.

An image of the watermark is below:

Again, please note that this watermark, albeit annoying, does not affect the legality of your leases. The entire signing process has not changed and the sealing of the document (via a separate trusted 3rd party certificate provider) still occurred.

Since the watermarked documents are still 100% legally binding, there is no action that we recommend you take. However, if the watermark is extremely bothersome to you, you can resend the leases for eSignature.

Please contact our support team if you have any questions regarding this issue.
